Contents of a Complete Phoenix II 7240 Kit

Complete systems from ElectricRider include everything you need to convert your pedal bike at home or at a bike shop, and we do a lot of the work for you. The wheel is laced to the motor and the batteries are pre-wired. Although Phoenix II systems are priced for the DIY market, we don't make you work very hard for it. Considering a Phoenix II system a DIY project would be similar to considering a new coffee table you must assemble a DIY project. There's a little assembly required, but nothing difficult. Every component we ship is tested just prior to shipment. Our goal is zero defects in our customers' hands.

Power System Only kits from ElectricRider include the main components necessary to convert your bike to electric except batteries, charger, and a mounting system. The wheel is laced to the motor. Every component we ship is bench tested just prior to shipment. The Power System Only kit was created for those who prefer to experiment with other battery technology, or already have a good battery source.  If you do not have a battery and charger, and do not have plans to purchase them elsewhere, order the complete kit rather than the Power System Only kit.

Here are pictures of individual PARTS for your perusal. You will also find hub system parts under parts categories.

Motor We offer two types of motors, the Cruiser is wound for speed and the Brute  is wound for torque. Both motors are available in front or rear, and can be laced to a 20in, 24in, 26in, and 700C rim. All Phoenix II motors are disc brake compatible.
Spokes We use 12 gauge spokes for all Phoenix II wheels. Normal bike spokes are 14 gauge. Heavier spokes mean less spoke maintenance and a stronger wheel. Each time you decrease one size in gauge, the thickness doubles. For example, a 12g spoke is twice as thick as a 13g spoke.
Rim For Phoenix II we offer  20", 24", 26", and 700C rims. All of these rims are double-walled.
Lacing We lace the motor to the rim on our bench. We tighten the spokes to the correct tension, and make sure the wheel is true before shipping.
Controller The 7240 system comes with a 72 volt 40 amp controller (2880 watts). All Phoenix II controllers include plugs that will only fit into their mating plug, so there is no chance of plugging something in backward. Please note that even though only 3 pins may be used of a 4 pin connector, it is still a 4-pin connector and should only plug into its 4-pin mate. Plugs are identified by the total number of pins/holes available, not the number of pins/holes being used.
Throttle Three types of throttles are available for your Phoenix II system: Thumb Throttle, Half-Twist Throttle, and Full-Twist Throttle.  If you do not specify, you will receive a thumb throttle. You can see pictures of all the throttles we offer on our parts page. If you have twist shifters, choose a thumb throttle because the shifters take the space on the handlebar used by other models. All throttles are non-lighted for Phoenix II since the APM-Display monitors your battery capacity much more accurately.
Rack / Bag / Battery Brackets Since 72v requires 6 12v SLA batteries, there are a few mounting options for our 72v Phoenix II kits. The standard one-size-fits all setup includes a rack/basket combo unit and a sunlight trunk bag with fold out panniers. You would place two batteries in each side pannier, and the remaining 2 in the trunk portion of the bag. The rack/basket unit provides additional support for the panniers, and of course supports the entire bag. For most who do 72v, a better setup would be the Battery Brackets, Topeak rack, and Topeak bag. The way it works is that we swap the rack/basket unit for the Topeak rack. Then we swap the Sunlight pannier bag for the Battery Brackets. You'd pay the upgrade price for the Topeak bag, and also have the option to buy semu-leather saddle bags for the Battery Brackets. For more detailed  information about our battery bracket and semu-leather option, click here
Batteries Phoenix II kits come with 12V 12AH batteries, BP12-12T2. The 72v kit has 6 batteries. If your kit is purchased from ElectricRider, your batteries will come pre-wired unless otherwise requested. You have the option to upgrade to any batteries we carry for only the difference in price. A higher amp hour battery pack increases range, but adds weight. At 72v you are fairly limited with weight/space on a bicycle frame, however, many trikes and 4 wheeled vehicles have plenty of room for battery storage.
Fuse
Wire set
Keyswitch
Charger Port
Connector to controller
The standard wire set for a Phoenix II 7240 system includes two 50amp fuses and fuse holders, two charger ports, a key switch, jumper wires, and a 50amp Anderson power connector for the main power to the controller. This wire set is pre-made for easy installation and use, and is designed for use with two 36v chargers, not one 72v charger. If you purchase your system from ElectricRider, we pre-wire your batteries using this wire set. This wire set also makes battery replacement a simple task.
Charger You will receive two 36v chargers with your Phoenix II 7240 complete kit. The standard chargers included are Joule 36030, 36V 3A smart chargers. Using two 36v chargers has several benefits over using one 72v charger. First is that lower voltages are less dangerous to work with, and are easier to find compatible connectors for. Second is that your batteries will remain more balanced when charged with fewer batteries in series. Lastly, if a charger gets dropped or damaged, you'll have a backup charger until a replacement arrives.  The standard chargers will charge in 3-4 hours. You may also upgrade to faster Joule or Soneil chargers. The Joule brand is our best value, and has basic, reliable operations. For those who need reverse polarity protection, dual input voltage, and other sophisticated features, Soneil is the best choice. For charge time, divide the AH (amp hour) rating of the battery by the amp rating of the charger. This will give you the approx. charge time in hours. For example, it would take 4 hours to charge a 12AH battery pack with a 3 amp charger.
7-Speed Freewheel (8-speed avail) Anything from a single rear gear to an 8-speed freewheel is compatible with Phoenix II motors. A 7-speed freewheel is shipped with all rear wheel drive complete kits by default, however, you may request an 8-speed instead for no additional charge.
APM-Display (Active Power Management Display) The APM-Display is included with all Phoenix II complete kits and power system only kits. The APM-Display is a toolbox for the Phoenix II owner, offering specific information about power consumption, efficiency, RPM, Voltage, etc. Please see the APM-Display Owner's Manual for details.
Spoke Wrench We include a spoke wrench with all of our kits. The spoke wrench is a metal ring about 1" diameter that has notches cut out. Keep an eye out for this in your package as it is not obvious to most. The spoke wrench can usually be found packaged with the throttle unit.
SlimeTube (Most sizes) We supply a slimetube for all Phoenix II complete kit wheel sizes except 700C. Slimetubes are self-healing tubes that contain a slime-like substance. This substance will fill any small puncture wound that may be created by thorns or other small objects. It will often fill the hole and dry before losing all the air, which can make the difference of whether you are riding or walking home.

Things you may want to add:
Lights,  Mirrors
, Double Kickstand. Lights and mirrors improve the safety of your ride. Since adding a Phoenix II system to your frame makes your frame much heavier, a double kickstand may be desired in order to keep your bike from falling. Regular bicycle kickstands tend to bend, break, or simply won't hold the extra weight of your Phoenix II. Double kickstands can be cut or modified to offer the desired fit to your frame. For all other accessories, please browse the selection on our Accessories page.

Since we assemble and package kits at our shop, we can make any substitution you desire. For instance, if you want 20AH batteries with your Phoenix II instead of the standard 12AH batteries, we'll substitute the 20AH batteries for only the difference in price. Bottom line, we want you to be as satisfied as possible with your new Phoenix II system. While assembly line production is the most efficient method for building kits, we will stray from our assembly line production to assure our customers receive the best system for their application.
